Green explosives. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the devices which blow things up will now be environmentally friendly...er, possibly, eventually. Thanks to recent breakthroughs in the science of synthetic biology, scientists may be able to create designer yeasts capable of producing chemicals used in bomb-making. Of course, let us not get ahead of ourselves. There is an international agreement or two that keeps a keen eye on developments such as these, but in the meantime it's worth noting that the research and development behind these endeavors may lead to other quantum leaps in the field. As for us civilians, let's take a look at how "Going Green" could be beneficial for--not only the environment we live in--but for our own bottom lines as well. Obviously, many energy efficient appliances consume less energy, hence cutting back on the electric and gas bills, but did you know that the IRS cuts you a break when you cut one for the environment? If you've paid for any 'qualified residential alternative energy equipment' you may be entitled to a significant tax credit. For those of us who prefer to dodge the ever increasing price of gas (and plug our cars in to the wall), there's the "Plug-in Electric Vehicle Credit" that you may qualify for. You can find more details about all the credits available for staying environmentally conscious at: IRS tax breaks.
As always, don’t forget to let a professional prepare your taxes (us) and please join us in the pursuit of keeping our planet beautiful as our office makes the switch to “Going Green.” Danya Vargas | 01/23/2012
